Plan in the right order

Park City trip planner

A strong mountain itinerary starts with season and area, then adds reservations. Use this sequence to avoid paying for pieces that do not fit together.

1. Define the trip’s fixed points

List flight or drive times, event tickets, lessons, tee times and any appointment with a cancellation penalty. Mark the exact venue or resort base for each one. A brand name is not a location.

2. Choose one practical home base

Compare visitor areas using the most important fixed point. Old Town favors walkable evenings; resort villages favor mountain access; Kimball Junction favors highway access and practical services; regional stays favor space and selected outdoor days.

3. Build a transport plan before a restaurant list

Review Park City Transit, High Valley Transit, property shuttles, parking reservations and winter road conditions. Transit service is fare-free, but routes and schedules can change by season. Save the live tracker instead of relying on an old screenshot.

4. Add one anchor and one backup per day

An anchor is the day’s mountain, hike, golf round, event or appointment. The backup should work under a different weather or energy scenario and be close enough to use without rebuilding the entire day.

5. Recheck at three moments

  • Before payment: access, cancellation, parking and age policies.
  • 48 hours before: weather, road, snow or trail conditions and operating schedule.
  • Day of: live status, venue message, transit tracker and return plan.

Practical planning depth

A practical booking sequence

Book in dependency order. Flights or drive windows establish arrival and departure. The primary activity determines the best area. Lodging determines the transportation system. Only after those pieces align should dining and optional activities fill the remaining time.

Mark every fixed item with its precise location, start time, arrival requirement and cancellation deadline. Add the transfer time from the prior activity and a realistic recovery buffer. If two reservations only work under perfect conditions, the day is overcommitted.

Create a simple trip sheet with addresses, confirmation numbers, current-source links and the backup plan. Store it where the group can reach it without dependable cell service.
